No they do not require a permit at this time. They were working on putting some together earlier this year but they have stopped that at this time.

Reno does require one yes. You need to register with the City of Reno and get a Short-Term Rental permit through their Community Development department. There's an annual fee and you'll need to meet some basic requirements (owner notification to neighbors, parking, occupancy limits, that kind of thing). Washoe County has slightly different rules if your property is in the county rather than city limits, so worth checking which jurisdiction you're in.
One thing a lot of Reno hosts miss is that the permit has to be renewed annually and the city isn't great about reminding you. I use RentPermit to track my expiry date and it sends alerts at 60, 30 and 7 days out. Saved me from missing renewal last year. Free to try if you want something to keep on top of it: rentpermit.com
Good luck with the process, it's pretty straightforward once you know what you're filing.

Thank you @Dragos33 for the tips! You seem to have a lot of knowledge in regards to STR regulations -is it a bit of a passion? Do you have hosting experience yourself? 💡

Yeah Reno does require an STR permit but rules can vary a bit depending on the exact area and zoning so it is worth double checking with the city website. Also before you jump in it is smart to look at demand, occupancy and local restrictions. Tools like Chalet can help you quickly see if the area actually performs well for STRs before going through the permit process.
