Scam ALERT

Scam ALERT

Received a phone call from a ** who asked to verify if I have started an AirBnB Services account the day before. They mentioned my email and another key word that came up during my computer session the night before as well so I thought in the moment they were legit only for the call to cut off abruptly right after I said, 'yeah' and rattled off an explanation...

Later when I got home after the call, I found an email from this address: **

Hey ,

I noticed you started your submission but didn’t get a chance to complete it — no worries at all, life gets busy!

If you're still interested, you can jump back in anytime using this link: http://airbnb.com/servicesmks
It should pick up right where you left off.

If you ran into any questions or need help along the way, let me know how I am happy to help!

Warmly,

When I searched their details it shows a Linked In profile that reads:

**

Sr Consultant Marketstar, Currently partnered with AirBNB.

When I reached out to AirBnb, they've not really done anything helpful or even acknowledged the problem that they leaked my email to some unknown party who then also obtained my phone number and called me.

Since AirBnb are not being helpful, and I feel threatened by this scammer, like where and what else are they accessing? I thought I would write in the Community to see if anyone has dealt with a similar situation before both in relation to protecting from such scammers and continuing to trust AirBnb as a platform?

Hello @Lest575

Yes there are several posts here on the CC on scammers posing as Airbnb support.  You can use the search bar here to see others but the one below is the one with the most comments:

https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Help-with-your-business/Airbnb-Scam-by-Scammer-Posing-as-Airbnb-...

It might be legit of course but always best to be cautious.

@Joelle43 yes some scams out there, but I read through @Lest575 's post and this one doesn't seem like a scam to me?

It's possible that I'm just not understanding what was dodgy about this situation, but to me it sounds like an affiliate marketing firm is trying to push service providers to sign up or to let them know what's stopping them from signing up. Services are new on Airbnb and probably aggressively marketed on purpose.

@Lest575 I still wouldn't click any links from emails. If you want to finish your listing, sign in independently and complete it.

This was AirBnb's response when I raised the issue with them:
