Today, I received a call from 415-800-5959 from someone claiming to be with Airbnb Support. While the caller did not ask me for a verification code, what raised immediate concern was that they had full knowledge of all my July payouts—including exact amounts down to the cent.
The caller claimed that my payouts were on hold and instructed me to select the Fast Pay option and input a bank account number they provided. I wrote the account number down but did not proceed with entering it.
To verify, I contacted Airbnb directly and was informed that the payout issue was related to a recent system upgrade and has now been resolved. However, I am extremely concerned that someone outside of Airbnb had access to sensitive financial details about my account. This raises a serious question of a possible data breach or internal compromise.
I requested that this incident be escalated to Airbnb’s Trust and Safety or Security Team immediately. I provided the phone number and account number he gave me.
I shared this with an experienced person who suspects that some insiders in Airbnb who have access to all our information are working with Scammers. Scammers are looking for payouts on HOLD, then call the hosts claiming to help them and in the process try to SCAM them. What a tragedy!
I really hope that Airbnb will investigate this to make sure my account is secure. I was a bit shaken by the whole incident.
