Hi Airbnb Community,
I hope you're all doing well. I am an American citizen currently living in the US and operating an Airbnb rental in Lisbon, Portugal, with the assistance of a friend who lives in Lisbon.
As a host, I want to ensure that I meet all my tax obligations in the U.S. and Portugal, but I would appreciate it if someone could help me clarify my tax obligations in both the U.S. and Portugal to avoid double taxation. In the U.S., I'm required to report worldwide income, including income earned abroad. Meanwhile, Portugal also taxes income generated within its borders.
The apartment I own is in Lisbon, and the Airbnb activity is conducted there. I understand that I might need to pay taxes in both countries, but I want to avoid being double-taxed. Has anyone else navigated a similar situation or sought professional advice on international taxation?
I would appreciate any insights or guidance from the community, and if there are resources or contacts within Airbnb that can assist hosts with international tax matters, I would be grateful for that information.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Marlene
