Verify ID now required for all travelers?

Has anyone else run up against a requirement to use Verify ID no matter who you are booking with? For security reasons I do not with to keep my ocs on file and link my airbnb profile with my fb page. So I have not been able to book with any hosts now, and the hosts are not the ones imposing the requirement. as a Super Host myself, I think this is going to really hurt my business. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

asking for a picture of my passport??? is this a joke? No one should be asking this especially a digital copy that no one can keep secure, and just saying that you will keep it safe is no guarantee and of no help if identity gets stolen. How is credid card, phone number... not enough to make a rental booking? There is no way I am uploading this info online ever and if that means that we have to take our business somewhere else then so be it. Fix this.

Was about to book a place through AirBNB until it it asked for a drivers license. I cancelled my plans to use AirBNB and will be using another service instead. I do not trust a company to hold my drivers license like AirBNB and the company has zero reason to have that on file. Hotels do not ask for these things to store in a database.

Until this policy is lifted, I do not plan to stay in an AirBNB in the near future.

100% agree. I do not want to store my ID online and it is forcing you too - there is no OPT OUT feature. Thanks but no thanks and now I'm forced to look like a creep asking a host to book outside of the website or search for the place elsewhere... if you're a host on here, please consider our privacy and ask for verification without storing our ID online or post your place elsewhere so my family can book with you.

I'll never provide this type of info and will never use them.

I wanted to use air bnb for work i.e. I'd like to book rooms on behalf of my company for clients/staff - but I'm reluctant to submit a picture of my own personal driving licence or passport.  For a work account is this really necessary?

Thanks

Karen

3rd party bookings are not allowed on Airbnb - the person who books must be the person who stays

I am happy to show my ID card upon arrival. However, I will not upload my government picture ID, which has no much information. If a host cannot see it, why ask for it?

I will NEVER use AirBNB again if you request this info.  You already have all of my information in the app.

I booked a place via AirBNB in Feburary 2018 and was not asked for gov issued ID. My husband booked two places for Sept of this year and was not asked for gov issued ID. When I tried to book a place today I was shut out because they asked for photo ID. I tried to upload my 1983 Princess Leia holloween pic but it was rejected. I tried to upload my passport ID with my passport number cropped out but it was rejected. I sent a message to the host in desperation because my father is ill and six states away. I too, refuse to upload photo id.

I cannot risk uploading my driver’s license or passport electronically. I don’t have to do that to reserve a room at a hotel. Taking such a risk is nuts in the cyber hacking world we live in! There is no such thing as “secure.” There are two types of online businesses: those that have been hacked, and those that don’t know they’ve been hacked.

Here's what airbnb says:  "Additionally, providing a government ID is still not mandatory, however some hosts may require ID proofs, so that they can be sure that only verified guests visit their listing."

These are just weasel words .  If you look through this thread you'll find instances where the host has not required it, but airbnb is requiring it.  They are selling your information.  Right now it is a percentage because they are testing acceptance, I would think.

Just spent an afternoon trying to book a cottage in Wales with airbnb could not get past the provide photo id, thats it,never again, booked same property thru another website. Air bnb better learn their lesson pretty quick.

There'a no way that I will risk my ID with this airbnb website - I wasted a lot of time browsing through what could be a useful resource.    John - would you be able to say which other website/s I could try?    I'm worn out scrolling & googling.    Many thanks.

I agree this sucks and I don't trust any online entity with a photo of my ID!  I have had my ID stolen once already online.  I refuse to use Airbnb if they require this.
