AIRBNB UNDERCHARGED THE GUEST

AIRBNB UNDERCHARGED THE GUEST

@Adm0

My guest in Argentina is confused as per the charge for her 14 day stay this coming February 2018. She was asking me if that amount was for half of the stay, and I indicated that the total amount was much greater than what she got charged. My request is that someone please check my booking for early two weeks of february and see what is happening. Why would Airbnb undercharge the guest? She basically got charged a total of one per diem as opposed to 14 per diems as she wishes to be charged. I wonder if Airbnb did not realize that Argentina has pesos and Brazil is reais, but even so, the amount is incorrect. I already contacted Airbnb on Twitter in Brazil and did not get a response as of now.  thank you! Annie

Hi @Anna446

Why not give them a call. Probably quickiest way of getting your issue resolved.

You can log into through another browser without logging into your account and check yourself on what price is showing up for two weeks in Feb.

Good luck.

@Helen0, calls are very expensive in BR out of state, it is a fortune to call, the country has a horrible phone system. The amount is correct on my account reservation page, however, the guest is claming she got charged a fraction of the total, even after she indicated that she opted to pay all at once in full. I need someone to check this for me before it snowballs into the summer. Thanks for your quick reply. I hope someone in Admin will see my posting and reply. This has never happen, never encounter this trouble, and I hardly go into the forum, unless is a real concern.

Hello @Anna446,

As those two weeks are already booked no price shows for those dates when others hover the mouse pointer on them when checking your calendar.

It shows prices only for available dates.

You could go to "your reservations" and click on "Print confirmation" for her reservation to see what price calculation it shows for you.

Really the only way to resolve it fully is to keep on to Airbnb support.

Steve.

@Steve0 , my page of reservations for this guest shows the correct amount and tells me correctly what i should receive, but why is the guest claiming she got charged in her credit card only a fraction of the total price.  I am fine with what my reservation page says, but we don't understand why Airbnb only charged her such a small fraction of the total of 14 days.  Is fine on my end, but my question is to Airbnb why are they undercharging the guest, when they posted on my reservation page that they will pay me for 14 days. Is Airbnb giving 90% discounts to some guests and paying us in full nonetheless?

Hello @Anna446,

That's good news. Airbnb has calculated your payout correctly.

Then it's the guest's problem, as always, to sort out as payment issues are between them and Airbnb. They pay Airbnb, they don't pay the host. There's no way the host can know what's going on charging wise between Airbnb and the guest.

Perhaps she had a credit that she didn't realise was automatically applied. Perhaps she's made two Airbnb bookings and is confusing one with yours when yours hasn't yet been charged to her card. Perhaps there really is some mistake on Aribnb's part. Only the guest can find out.

There's nothing further you can do.

Steve.

@Steve0,

I would like to have Airbnb to look into this situation.Comes Feb. a glitch takes place and Airbnb will have this to deal with. I never had any problems with Airbnb and I hope this situation is cleared because the guest is under the impression that she will have to pay just another half of the amount charged and it will come to a total, she wanted me to confirm this, WHICH I DID NOT, i said i cannot confirm that this was the correct amount.  These correspondences are all inside Airbnb so one has to be careful, and i never correspond outside of the company. YES, Steve we all  know there is no exchange of cash between host and guests, this is not what is at stake here. I have the option to leave Airbnb and rent the house on my own, but i prefered to stay with the company because i do not have to dwell and combat with the guests on money matters, as they attempt to haggle with you if you are on your own....i refer them ALWAYS to Airbnb that is why I pay a fee, so i do not have go haggle with guests on money issues, but his will have to be solved...the guest is under the impression she will pay for a fraction of the total and that is that....

@Ste0ve

Dear Steve, i just saw you are in IRELAND....LIMERICK, which means rymes in a song correct? what a lovely place ireland, lovely people.Every time i watch LOOKING FOR NED LEVINE, I cry. The Irish are life itself. May their pure hearts live on forever! I collect leprichauns....i love them!My experience with the IRISH is that they are straight shooters and very honest.

@Steve0

I see what you say Steve 'there is no way for us hosts to know what goes on between the guest and airbnb'. I wished the guest had not contacted me over this issue. It opened a can of worms for me. I started to worry about the credit cards forcing the guest to pay interest on the charges and therefore not charging her all at once. There is predatory lending in latin america, banks run amock here in ways you would never fathom in your wildest dream. A friend of mine had to sue a bank because they did not allow her to pay in full for the remainder of her outstanding balance in a home loan. They basically wanted to force her to keep making payments with huge interests for their benefit. I told her to get a lawyer and they would see very quickly the other side of the forest. She did and in no time, the bank acquiesced to her demand. I am a person of few fleas, when the situation starts to snowball, i get on top of it before I get burried. I just hope this situation has no cadavers in the armoire and Airbnb charges the guest in full--if that is the case.

 Sounds like a currency issue, @Anna446.  One Argentine peso equals .18 Brazillian Real.  The host and guest are not looking at the same currency.  As long as you get what you expect, which your confirmation indicates, you should be fine.  Good luck

@Linda0, thank you linda, we are aware of currency difference. Latin America has different currencies in all its nations. This is why is so messed up, my total comes to 3,880 reais due to me  for 14 night stay--she got charged the equivalent of 231 reais give and take a few. It is not a currency issue.

@ Linda, thank you for your comment. We are aware of the currency issue, that is what makes it even worse because given the difference in currency and the real being 5 times higher than the argentinian peso, the amount the guest was charged is minimal. I rented to Argentinians last year and we did not have this problem, the guests always got charged correctly. What is frustrating is the fact that in BR calling costs an arm and a leg and you are put on hold for a long time and the cost for a single call inter-state hits the roof. BR has the highest rates in the world for domestic calls, the companies here run a cartel and the people are victimized every time they use their cell phones.

As long as you have your documentation of the correct amount to be paid out, you are going to be paid that amount.  Nothing more for you to do.

@Linda0,

thank you very much. I saw you are level 10 so I trust your advise. I was worried about the guest because she was really puzzled that they charged her a fraction of the total. But on my left side of my screen under reservations showed me exactly the itemized amount and deductions for fees and my request for airbnb to charge them a cleaning fee. I am very sick in bed with a cold and I am going to take care of myself and let this ride, february still a ways to go. Take care Linda and thank you for the information! Congrats on being a level 10, this is a very good company, I really like them!

I had a weird situation where a guest at the last minute asked if I had a second room.  My son's room, which is not listed,  was unused that week so I let his business partner stay there and I chose a rate that was $14  lower than my minimum on the AirBnB room because I figured my sons stuff is in there and now the two of them have to share a bathroom.  When we were settling up for this ad hoc surprise rental, my AirBnB guest pointed out this discounted rate was slightly higher than what AirBnB had charged him for the original room.

Whaaaa?  AirBnB paid me at my minimum and seems to have taken a loss on the room!  His itinerary off the calendar page shows my minimum rate, but he seems quite sure he paid $58 a night, a full $16 less than the minimum.  Has anyone else had this happen?
