Hello everyone! Just found the community page and I can't believe I didn'f find it sooner!
Wondering if anyone knows some of the ins and outs of filing taxes as an Experience Host. I've had enough bookings to qualify for the 1099K, but I'm confused as to why the amount is including the 20% that Airbnb takes. Shouldn't Airbnb be paying that portion of the tax or is that the tax?
Also, just want to know if anyone else who is an Experience Host has any tips or advice for someone who is just realizing that my taxes are going to be VERY diffferent this year.
Hi Cameron,
I have been trying to find info regarding filing 2018 taxes, and just saw your post. I am a bit confused myself, and worried that my tax advisor may not know how to handle my situation. I have 2 Airbnb listings, and together they earned more than $30,000. So I know I need to report this income. But the total transactions are less than 200, so I was told I would not get a 1099. Do I need to file a schedule E or something like that for each property? Are they treated like long term rentals, and can have the same type deductions (utilities, repairs, maintenance, etc.?) Airbnb cannot give me any tax advice, but I just want to know the basics on how to do what I'm supposed to do so I don't get audited, and at the same time not pay more taxes than I have to. Any help out there would be VERY MUCH appreciated!
I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for a tax professional that specializes in serving Airbnb hosts. In my situation, I live in the home and host with shared rooms. I'm interested in understanding the implications of starting Airbnb experiences to offset my tax liability this year.
@Cameron118 @Joan315 Any luck finding someone good?
