Airbnb cancelled

Is it possible for Airbnb to cancel our reservation? 

My reservation got cancelled this morning and my host insisted that Airbnb cancelled it. However he did offered me another option which is to still stay at the same place, but to pay him when I reach the apartment. Is that safe?

No, it is not safe.

If you pay outside the platform, you have NO security - the list may be fake, there is no insurance, nothing.

You should contact airbnb to see if they really cancel the reservation, or it it was the host (the host may be trying to get more money from you, but if he cancel, the dates will be blocked by airbnb).

You should indeed never pay outside the platform as Roberta has mentioned. Have you contacted Airbnb in order to let them know what's going on?
