@Charles168 - because the local tax authority has not requested it.

Wrong!  AirBnB and VRBO were both present at this year's Hawaii State legislative session.  They both lobbied vigorously against several pending vacation rental bills.  Some of them were the collection and payment of local taxes.   Aloha
