Can Airbnb booked for guest without my approval?

Hi, there.

here is Mickey from Montreal, Canada.

There is one thing happened this morning really annoying me.

At 4am this morning, there was a guest booked my place. And Airbnb customer service contacted me asked can they check in earlier? And this guest just keep calling me. Which woken me up. 

He told me he is at apartment right now, and he wants to check in now. I told the guest I was sleeping, and usually our check in time is 4pm. I told Airbnb is there any chance I can cancel this reservation, but if I cancel it it will be my fault. 

And this guy keep calling me, he said he has kids in the car and he just want to sleep. Due to kids, I told him I will be there in 10 min.

when I arrived, he wasn’t there, it was raining in the 5am, and really cold. I trying to contact Airbnb but they didn’t answer me. I was feeling so helpless and even cried.

After check in. When I watch through the guest information, i found he only has email address and phone number. Which are not enough for my instant booking conditions. I don’t know how can they booked my place? 

I think Airbnb might helped them to booked my place. But that was really terrible. 

This was my worst experience as Airbnb host. I am so disappointed about them. They are not respect my privacy and myself.

Does any one has same experience as mine?

A check-in at 4 am is not an early check-in, but an extreme late check-in from the previous day (which should be booked also, including extra charge). It is rediculous Airbnb is asking you to fulfill such a request. Imagine a hotel would ever do this ?

Hi Emiel,

Thank you for reply me. 

I am so mad about this reservation, because it ruined my whole day. 

Like what you mentioned, usually my check out time is 11am. If any guest wants to check in before 11am, I will charge extra $50 as empty fee for previous fee. (Because I need to block previous day, and at summer time, my entire apartment can get $150+ per day.) 

However, I don’t know should I charge this fee, because he check in already. I am worry about he give me a bad comment. That might effect my superhost. I tried so hard to get superhost title. I don’t want lose it.

For right now, I am think about report this issue to Airbnb. And let them give me compensation. Because this guest doesn’t match my requirements, Airbnb still let him booked my place. What do you think I should do?

You can charge the guest for extra money via the resolution centre (click  "sent/ask money" from the  reservation). Or change the reservation and amend the price (by clicking in the price field and put in the new price). You can report the issue to Airbnb as a follow up to your previous conversation with Airbnb.
