Can you ask guest to leave a review?

Hello everyone, I am new to hosting on Airbnb. I have had 3 guest so far. I know you can greatly increase your bookings by getting reviews. I have written a nice review for all three guest so far, but only one guest has written a review on me. Although the other two guest said they enjoyed their stay, they have not written a review. Is it okay to ask if they can write a review on there stay? Thank you in advance for any responses.

@Ann742  This is a controversial topic. In the forum, it has been discussed before many times. 

 

In your case, you just started and really need reviews. I would suggest that you could talk or message the guests for reviews. Something like "I appreciate that you could leave me a review for your stay to help me getting started with Airbnb hosting".

Hi @Ann742  we are relatively new too, we started in April and have just achieved Superhost status, out of 22 stays 3 have not reviewed and yes it is very frustrating but some people just don’t seem to bother reviewing, good luck I’m sure you will get many positive reviews 😊

I write all my guests a welcome note and leave it in the room for them. In the beginning, when I was trying to ensure I got enough reviews, I added a little P.S. at the end of the note to say that I would appreciate them leaving a review after their stay. I think the handwritten touch helped.

You definitely want to "jog the memory" of your guests to write a review, @Ann742 .  When guests have departed, we sent a Thank You message and in it mention that Airbnb will send a request for a review.  We state that guest feedback is useful in improving our rental for future visitor and would appreciate their assistance.

 

Also, both @Mark116  and @Jessica1430 provide good suggestions for confirming that guests have departed.  We provide a check-out sheet the day prior with a request for e-mail, text, or phone notification that the premises has been vacated.  While we have an electronic lock which indicates visitors entering and leaving, we definitely don't use the information ask if they have left.  "Big Brother" watching would unnerve most people.
