Cancellation from guest

Hi,

i would like to understand how does the cancellation from guest works? As the guest would like to cancel the stay (which today is day 1 of their stay) due to their unforeseen reason and they would like to request for cancellation. What should a host do?

Firstly, DO NOT cancel of behalf of your guest.

Advise your guest that you would love for them to stay with you, however you also realize that extenuating circumstances have arisen for them. Advise the guest to contact AirBnB C/S to cancel the reservation. Depending on your cancellation policy, monies will be refunded to the guest. If you want, you could offer the guest an incentive to stay at your place at a later date.

Host:  You, do nothing.

 

The guest can cancel on their own at any time.  Some guests contact airbnb and then airbnb will send a confusing message to you, the host, asking if you approve the guest cancellation request...if you approve it, it will record as a host cancellation and you will be penalized.

 

The guest does not need host approval to cancel.  They can just cancel.  If they want their airbnb fees back, they can take that up with airbnb.  You, have nothing to do in any of this.

 

You could agree or not agree to refund them any part of their stay, but this also should be done between you and airbnb, not direct to the guest.
