Cancelling a long-standing reservation

I made a reservation in July for two nights in Palma Majorca October, and wrote a friendly message, stating that we would not be arriving until late, and that I was a fellow host and was looking forward to my first experience as an Airbnb guest. I received no reply from the host, but the reservation was accepted.  Yesterday, less than a week before we are due to travel, the reservation was cancelled without any reason or message from the host.  As a Superhost, I was really shocked that a customer should be treated in this way....if I ever had to cancel I would write explaining the situation to the guest and aplogising for any inconvenience.  As it is so near the time of travel, I had real problems finding something suitable at such short notice, but resorted to a hotel booking website as I am wary of using Airbnb as a guest now.  Has anyone any explanation for this?  I have tried emailing Airbnb but without success.  I feel I have been very badly treated.

@Sue100 It's quite possible the reason for that is the new regulations coming into force there (from October?). Hosts are afraid of charges/legal steps against them and they are shutting down one by one. Is your host's listing still visible?
