Hello everyone
I am new to Airbnb and have a question about cleaning fees please.
At the moment I am charging a cleaning fee for stays of less than 5 nights. I have set this in House Rules and in the listing. My question is - how do I get payment for the cleaning fee as it's separate to the Airbnb fee?
Any tips would be appreciated thanks.

@Chris-and-Rochelle0 The cleaning fee is automatically added to ANY booking no matter the length of stay. If you want to waive the fee for longer stays, you would use the refund option on the reservation. Hope this helps. 😄
It seems like you're trying to do something quite complicated and convoluted to apply.
Indeed, why post a cleaning fee and then 'waive' it for a particular length of stay?
You can't assume inquirers will figure it out, let alone bother reading your House Rules prior to booking.
I would rather advise to either apply it to all days of a booking or none.
If the latter, you can calculate a daily rate and cost it into your rental price.
According to some Hosts there is a benefit in not applying a cleaning fee, in that your listing will appear higher up in the ranking. (I recall one post on this subject. Check 'Search' on the Community Centre with keyword 'cleaning fees'.)
Best Wishes.
ps. Slight correction, re 'benefit in not applying a cleaning fee...'
More accurately stated 'not display a cleaning fee...'
Otherwise, based on experience, shorter term inquirers are far more likely to note a cleaning fee. Longer term tend not even to notice.
How does Airbnb know what cleaning fee you want to charge? Is it adjustable?
I do not see any listing, @Brian925 . When a listing is set up, additional fees are part of the set up and Air BNB includes it in the reservation. What prompts your question?
Right, we haven't completed the listing because we didn't see how to enter our cleaning fee, or how to link the airbnb with our google calendar. We got all the way through the process and the next step was "publish" - but we still had questions we needed answers to before we clicked on "publish."
How does Airbnb decide what cleaning fee to attach to our listing, and does that happen AFTER we publish? Do we have the ability to adjust it? What if a host didn't want to charge a cleaning fee?
Hi @Brian925 🙂
You as a host decides what the cleaning fee should be. I rent out a room and my cleaning fee is about 10 dollars/booking.
You can edit all the different prices like fee for extra people, cleaning fee under booking settings - >price settings.
Best, Sandra
@Brian925 What I would have liked to know if I was a new host was 1) to turn off instant book straight ahead until I got use to having guests. 2) put a maximum on days guests can stay. I now have a max. of 3 or 4 days. If the guests are bad I know they will soon be gone :-).
@Brian925 While I don't claim to understand the publishing process, if appears that a host can publish the listing before it is completed. What that causes for new hosts is to be blindsided as they will quickly get bookings before they are prepared. Here is what I did. I blocked the first month after I published and then I went in and finished all the areas of the listing. Perhaps you can do that, publish then go the listing and edit for the final details.
I wish I had seen this posting first before I published. The site said it would be published effective July 1st, so I thought that meant I had a few days before it even went online. Wrong! I was inundated with emails almost immediately! I had trouble keeping up with all of them. I've got it mostly figured out now, but I'm still learning. Thank goodness for this Community.
How on Earth do I even find book settings or Price settings
Go to your listing, select booking or price and then edit. Or, go to preview setting and select edit and review all your settings as your scroll through. Better to do on computer rather than the device. Once you figure this out, a whole new world opens up for you as a host. 😄 Good luck!!
I also can't see where to add a cleaning fee. "Price settings" does not include that option. Is this only possible after publishing?
