I had a new -to-Airbnb-guest ask if I would discount our listing for a one night stay in July.
We do not discount and responded to the guest as to why.
After I hit the Decline button, a box popped up asking me to give a reason for the Decline. I answered simply " guest requested discount which we do not offer".
That answer, I assumed was for Airbnb only, however, it posted to the guest.
Think this is a glitch in the system.
I thought there might be a Delete button, but there wasn't and so the poor guest sees the Decline twice - once in my response to him but the other a short response to Airbnb's request for a reason.
Not very professional for the guest to see both responses - they could think I am being rude and pressing the point!
@Robynne-and-Dave0 Actually your decline response wasn't so bad. At least it was factual. I've seen worse situations! What I do with inquiries is press the Dismiss button when the conversation has come to an end. I had an inquiry just today where the guest was asking me if they could bring their 20 month old baby in spite of the fact I have No Children in my listing. I explained I couldn't do it, the guest thanked me for responding quickly and then I dismissed the inquiry. Done and done.
I had to deline an inquiary because
1.) no real picture (cartoon character) in profile
2.) no real name in profile.
3.) asking for discount due to travel distance where there are closer Airbnb locations around the city that this guest wanted.
4.) inquiary send out 12 midnight.
kinda makes you wonder.
Where is the Dismiss button?
@Belinda20 It's only available as an option for inquiries, but here's a picture (might be different if you are using a mobile app):
It's at the far right.
Thanks!
Thank you Claire! I also have difficulty in inderstanding how to best deal with questions which is not a booking request or even an inquiry as to not impact negatively on my response rate ;-)..........now I know about the Dismiss button, yeah! will be good to have this option in the APP as well. Kind regards, Izelle
I have declined an inquiry and 20 minutes later, I got an instant booking from the same person! I had to cancel the instant booking which is the last thing I want to do as a host. How does that happen? This is not right in my opinion.
@Yvonne41 By responding to an inquiry you've satisfied Airbnb's requirement to respond. Instead of declining, you can dismiss the inquiry when you click on it in your Messages Inbox. That's what I do.
