Hello all,
I am currently hosting 6 properties which is taking a toll on my faith in humankind.
I generally have great reviews as I having a lot of hosting experience but no matter what you do sometimes, it seems you cannot please everyone.
I had a guest who complained that the bedroom with our toddlers crib was too small yet it has a large window, plenty of space for the crib and for chairs. He referred to it as "creepy", I think the reason was becuase it was small. However, such a word to refer to a toddler/baby room can easily be misinterpreted by prospective guests when they are thinking of a bedroom for a toddler. I found his choice of words to refer to the bedroom for a toddler or baby to be very innappropriate since it can be taken out of context. He decided to move it to his bedroom and said it was "inconvenient" even though that was a person choice.
There were other very subjective comments none of which were made by other guests.
I have experience great guests but also many negative ones and it really takes the energy and optimism for human beings out of you at times. I am considering leaving this business in a year or so because the stress just outweighs the rewards. I know that you cannot please everyone but when guests make misleading comments or those that can be dangeroulsy misinterpreted, there needs to be repurcussions. I also noticed that every review this guest left for other hosts had some negative comments. I pointed this out to airbnb when I requested that they remove the review. Still waiting to hear back
@Sean433 don't take things too personally. I know it can be hard especially because it is our homes we are talking about but nothing is worth if it is destroying your health by stressing you out. You can always leave a public response to a review and you don't need the type of guests that would be turned down by one bad comment in hundreds of good ones anyway. They would find the bad in everything else. Take it easy, take a vacation if you need to but you don't have to quit hosting, there are still so many good people out there 🙂
Thanks for your kind words. The funny thing is I was on vacation last week. I was in Italy when I received a call that our guests threw a wild party in another property. I thoroughly screen all guests however this was booked on someone elses behalf and we did not know . So even on vacation, I cannot escape the occasional chaos of it all
@Sean433 true, I haven't been on summer vacation since I started hosting, I don't think I would be able to relax. I plan on going this summer and I already blocked the dates and I won't be hosting that week. Anyway, that is all stuff that comes with the territory and we need to be prepared for so as I said, you have to learn to accept things calmly and fix them as they come.
