Encouraging Guests to Conserve Water

Do you encourage your guests to conserve water by:

- Handwashing their dishes in tub/sink rather than under running water?

-Taking shorter showers?

-Turning off the water when brushing teeth or washing hands?

- and- ahhh- toilet flushing?

How do you communicate these water conservation practices to your guests?

We are in Virginia and in an undeclared drought. Rural areas ofter depend upon wells for water and the flow is currently greatly reduced so conservation practices are imperative. Any thought about how to kindly communicate? We have found that asking guests to conserve water in person, sending a message prior to their visit, and posting "Please Conserve Water" signs has not been particularly effective.

uh, tough one @Whitt-and-Martha0 , our guests often don't economize on anything, leaving AC running 24/7, heating with windows not properly closed, lights on when they are out... 😞

... maybe you could put those special mix-nets on your taps? I don't know how you call it but it basicly mix water with the air so you get a strong flow with less water.

And maybe if you could change your signs from "please conserve water" to something like "Virginia has great shortage of water, please conserve water, thank you"

But, I supose you already tried both ....

I am on a well, so it would be saving electricity for the pump not water.

If you dont find your guests are complying with your requests to conserve water, you can take matter into your own hands.  Install low-flow toilets, water conserving shower heads, etc.

Thanks Cynthia and Chris- We have installed low flow, aerator faucets, turn-offs so water can be stopped without having to readjust the shower, dish pans for washing dishes & rincing them, glasses are placed in the bathrooms for toothbrushing. We ask folks to space out taking showers to relieve the stress on the well.
