Dear all, I’m hoping someone might be able to advise on nexts steps with an issue that remains unresolved for over a week.
Last Thursday I trialled smart pricing on my strongest listing and within a few hours didn’t like it and turned it off. Prior to this I had always a set price for the listing and I always ensured that guests needed to request booking rather than use instant booking.
I then began receiving requests to book my space for me month or longer and when I looked at the pricing I noticed that the payment for me was equivalent to about 7 days at the price I set previously.
I contacted Airbnb about 12 times over the last week and they failed to recognise the issue as being on their part. At the age of 45 and feeling IT proficient I wasn’t wiling to accept that this was my doing and that I had soemhow pushed the wrong button or that someone had accessed my password (I live with 2 puppies and use Face ID on my iPhone) .While this parlava unfolded, guests were able to book my listing directly without making a request and this resulted in me being booked to host guests for quite long stays and at a fraction of my usual price. One such booking is during a period when I am due to be abroad with a family member having chemotherapy. To add insult to the above. Airbnb have said that if i cancel the bookings I will be penalised snd have my calendar frozen. While I waited for th matter to be resolved, a number of requests expired despite me remaining fully in contact with each guest in question and explaining a watered down version of the situation. While I was patiently waiting with one guest so I could book her in her request expired and my calendar was blocked. Airbnb refused to unlock the calendar even though both parties wanted the booking to go ahead.
has anyone had something similar happen? Or cns anyoen advise on next steps ? The only response I am getting from the Merry-go-around of Airbnb agents is ‘computer says no’ and threats to financially penalise me and block my calendar if I cancel these bookings. I am absolutely unwilling to accept airbnbs narrative that I accidentally accepted these rogue bookings or that someone nefariously accessed my iPhone and booked these on my behalf.
On a very basic level, why should I host an uninvited guest at a fraction of the price when im actually supposed to be with my sister in another country while she has medical treatment?
it is more than coincidental that all of these issues began when I foolishly trialled smart pricing.
Any advice on how to get the attention of someone at Airbnb with a modicum of common sense would really help!
thanks so much!
