Hi 🙂

So I have my first booking tomorrow. Very excited and a bit nervous.

Want it to go as smoothly as possible. I'm most curious about check-in/check-out.

Is it safe to make a copy of my keys and give it to my guest?

Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

It is a bit late to be starting to think about this now. What would happen if you think it isn't safe to give them a key? Are you going to stay home for their entire trip letting them in and out as they wish? How will a stranger here on the internet be able to tell you if it is safe?

If you give a key to each guest, some number of guests will lose them. Will you be comfortable with that? Some people put a realtor-type lockbox near their front door and give the guest a code to open it, use the key and put it back in right away. the code can be changed between guests.

Or you can get a fully electronic door lock with no key, just codes that you can customize for each guest.

This is something you should have thought about earlier!

I have given keys to guests for seven years and no one has ever lost them. Though it is of course a possibility. You still have to trust people or you will stress yourself to pieces having accommodation! I like to show guests around, how everything works etc in person, don't feel comfortable just to have strangers come and go otherwise.  Give them a big keyring. My last place I had it attached to a small torch as it was very dark to see the lock. The place I have now I have the keys on a lanyard.

Give them keys! If you must, have a key deposit which would cover a lock replacement...

 Your guests will certainly expect to get keys - they won't want to have to call you every time they wish to leave/entr the property.

One idea for lost key is is to have a fob engraved with just your phone number, that way if anyone finds keys they tend to call the number on the key fob.

Your should have a security deposit set and part of that can be used to cut new sets if someone loses a set of keys
