Give a discount vs register fewer guests

Are there any concrete reasons to give someone a discounted price vs just reducing the number of guests? For instance, if there is a group with 4 people and I want to give them a lower price, I could either give them a discount for the same 4 people or adjust the reservation to be for 3 people. (I charge for extra guests beyond the first 2.) Assuming the math works out exactly the same, is there any reason, legal or non, to make sure the correct number of people is registered and give them an overall discount...vs just knocking off a person from the reservation? Any insurance reasons? Or math reasons related to something other than accomodation fees?

If you want to offer a discount just send them a special offer for the correct number of guests.

Hi, if you just want to give a discount in this special case, then you can do that by offering a special price. I would not play around with the guest number as this can end up with insurance problems, as already mentioned.
My little questions is, if you have a fee for additonal persons above 2 people, and you now want to make it cheaper, why? maybe rethink the fees for additional people if you find that it is too much. I base the addiotnal person fee on the extra costs involved, bedding, towels, showers etc. and do not need to deal with offering discounts after booking.... just an idea, good luck.

@Enzo-and-Nan0  While the math may work out just fine, you will want to have ALL guests listed on the reservation for Airbnb's "insurance" policies.  Best to send them a Special Offer in order to accommodate their discount.
