Hi,
I booked two airbnbs last week and got charged twice in Swedish Crowns on my German Credit Card which resulted in an extra fee of 6€ even though every setting I could find was marked with Euro.
Could somebody please help me.
Best.
Patrick
I was charged in US $ when booking an Australian property, living in Australia and using an Australian credit card. I was told It was my mistake as I had selected US currency. I felt very frustrated to be told it was my mistake. I did not select their currency. The end result is me being overcharged. Where does this money go. I doubt the property owner would be paid the extra.
There is a huge problem with the system used and I have lost confidence in the integrity of the operation.
@Carole465 @Ulrike167 This is so frustrating! Today I noticed that my credit card was charged in USD for a reservation this weekend, when my account has only ever been set to CAD currency. My host confirmed that she was paid in CAD funds, and I specifically remember checking when I authorized the payment that it was in Canadian funds. I am a Canadian citizen, with a Canadian banking account, who booked an Airbnb for 2 nights 1 hour outside of Winnipeg, where I live. Why on EARTH would I approve paying for this reservation in US funds?? Have either of you, or anyone, had any luck in obtaining a refund? This makes me uneasy to ever reserve with AirBnb again. Any advice?
Hello Erin! The exact same thing is happening to me. Booked a week in northern Ontario, from Montreal. Total cost at time of booking showed 1378.34$. As my profile has always been in CAD, and all my past bookings were billed in CAD. I was quite surprised that I was charged a converted price of 1754$. I have now been fighting with their customer service for the past two weeks. You should go ahead and open a complaint with the Econsumer.gov ( see screenshots). I have also started a legal claim through my provincial consumer protection office. It will take me a year, but I’ll get my money back! I’ll keep you posted
@Erin5341 I just had the similar experience. I used my canadian credit card to book a place in Canada, but I was charged in USD! I found it out right after I paid and asked for the full refund. AirBNB did give me the FULL refund. Since the FULL refund is in USD as well, I lost 82 CAD for FX fees from the bank. I called Airbnb, they told me the fees from bank is not their reponsibilitie to refund. I am the customer of Airbnb, I thought using the payment method AIRBNB provided should truly give me FULL REFUND. Whatever agreement Airbnb has with the bank should it not affect to the customer?
