Guest Cancellation

I had a guest ask to cancel based on an extenuating circumstance, which my wife and I were fine with.  I've never had a cancellation on AirBnB, so my guest said the only way it could they could cancel it was if the host cancelled.  So the request showed as a host cancellation.  Is that correct?

To clarify, did you as the host cancel or did the guest cancel on their end? 

Since the guest was the one who asked to cancel, they should have done this on their end and then got in touch with Airbnb to see if they qualify for the extenuating circumstances to get a refund.
