Guest Fees

Hi guys, I am booking a place in August. Recently we had a friend decide to come along, we are still over 3 weeks away from the reservation. I went to modify the reservation. I expected an increase in service, maybe cleaning. Plus I knew there was a $30/per extra person/ per night fee. We are there for 3 nights and there is only 1 person extra. However it is charging me almost $300 to change the reservation. I chose not to change it and to message the host just to see if they can explain why this might be occurring or if I missed any info in our reservation. I don’t want to come off harsh or like I am ungrateful for their hospitality, so I am writing here to inquire about if there are extra fees associated with changing a reservation even though none are listed.

1. A listing can have "Smart Pricing" activated on it, which means prices change dynamically without intervention of the host. So prices can be different then at time of booking.

2. It is well known the "change feature" not allways calculates correct prices. I would suggest to ask the host to change the reservation, as the host has the option to correct the calculated price manually.

3. Just for the changing of a reservation there are no costs involved (like airlines or agencies do). Please note when changing a reservation the actual cancellation policy replaces the old one (if host changed this setting recently)

Hope this help,

Emiel

Thank you, this was very helpful. It seems there was an issue with the change feature and the host is looking into it. I’ve never changed a reservation before so I’m was a little surprised when it was so different. Thanks again!
