Airbnb has removed a future guest’s account as she has violated the terms of service. She has a week long reservation that is still blocked on my calendar however it is impossible to message her. A host for many years, I have never had this happen. I have contacted customer support but they haven’t replied and I was put on hold for ages when I called. I can’t undertand if the reservation is still valid, why a guest would be removed from Airbnb and if there is some security concern as I have already sent her my apartment’s address, door access codes and my phone numbers. Does anyone have some insight?
Thanks
I would be persistent and contact Airbnb until they don't cancel this booking. I wouldn't host anyone who is banned from Airbnb. I would change door access codes immediately.
Thank you. Still no reply from customer support via email so I called again and finally spoke to someone. Reservation not cancelled but guest removed from the platform. The support person imagines someone from Airbnb will contact me before the reservation starts with some further information. Odd situation as I have never had this happen and been a hosts for many years!
@Jane2 If the guest's account has been removed, there is no way I'd allow this reservation to proceed. Airbnb doesn't cancel guest accounts lightly, so I'd call back and insist that they do a neutral cancellation on this booking (with no penalties to you, and with them opening up your calendr for those dates), stating that you feel uncomfortable wih the reservation due to the guest's account being removed. It's absurd for them to expect you to go with a booking when they've removed your ability to communicate with the guest.
Thanks so much. Airbnb called me back and gave further explanation that the suspension is temporary. My guest isn’t arriving for a few weeks so I will see if the issue gets resolved. He suggested that her account might have been hacked etc. It has made me realize that I should only send directions, codes, contact info etc close to the travel date in case this happens again. And I will certainly have them cancel should this not get resolved.
I had this same scenario happen a couple of days ago except, immediately after the instant book came in, (with no message from the guest), it said the account was removed for violating Airbnb's terms. The reservation was still on my calendar with a confirmation. Yesterday afternoon I was able to send the guest a message asking "what brings them to the area" as I'm uneasy with a booking where the account is brand new, was removed, never sent a message, and now the guest hasn't responded to my message. I messaged airbnb support and they completely ignored the part about the account being removed but told me I would get my money and I could call the guest. I'm trying to decide what to do......
