Guest has requested my address before booking..Do I give?

I am a new host and a new potential guest has requested my address before booking to "see the house on a map". Do I give this info out before they have paid and confimred? My gut its telling me no....help?

@Noelle4 on our listing photos we give a map of the location. I don't see a problem with it, a guest will want to know where you are to see if it fits with their plans and itinerary. Why would you NOT want to let them know exactly where you are? All hotels do this routinely.

I've been looking for places in Chicago to stay as a guest, and one of my requirements is to be a five minute walk from where I will be working.  It's hard to tell from the bubble where exactly a place is, and I don't ask for the exact address, but sometimes I'll ask what some businessess are withing a few blocks walk.  That helps me narrow it down.  I did see a listing today that said it was in "The Loop" according to the pinpoint on the map, but when reading the description noticed it was in a neighborhood ten miles away.  I reported it so they can have it rectified or removed.

@Steve70 That's fair enough, you want to have a very good (and true) idea so it fits with plans. But never any need for exact address. I don't want anyone showing up who is not an expected guest. I often have guests ask how to walk from this or that restaurant, for instance, and they can clearly see within a couple of houses where I am on the map anyway.

No, I wouldn't. Address is given to actual bookings. Simple, safer.

You are not a hotel. But if you ARE, give it out, by all means.

Where is the guest from? Will he really just see it on the map or do you expect him to come and ask for a deal outside Airbnb?

In the first case I would give the address, but if you think he will come and bother you, then I wouldn't.

No - and it' agasint AirBnBs advice to do so for a number of reasons. Some of which are financial from their perspectie and some of which are to do with your safety and the long term security of your property. Hotels are different, they have teams of staff 24 hours a day - they are 'semi - public' places - your home is not.

@Noelle0, Airbnb blocks your address before booking. Don't you think there might be a reason? Never go around the system.

Absolutely not. Do not ever give out this information prior to it being sent via confirmed booking email. Check FAQs and enter search on this topic. Airbnb have a way to assist in these situations if you still wish to go ahead and permit a viewing. They can broker the appointment for your safety.

Regards, Christine.
