Hi all experienced hosts! I need some advices from you right now...
FYI, we rent out our guest suite including free parking space and the front yard.
I am experiencing something weird...
Our guests from China arrived at our place yesterday (even though there was a writing on their booking detail that check in time was 12am, they arrived around 15:30pm. And one of guests (old ready) just walked through our private area and showed up on the back yard and talked to me from outside of the windows in stead of ringing the doorbell at the front entrance door. ( I dislike ppl coming around to our backyard...) I didn’t notice nor expect their arrival until this moment. And she seemed like they wanted a help for sth (not good English speaker) so I went outside immediately and greeted the rest of the guests.( The main guest who had booked can understand English better but not a good speaker.) They asked me where they could park their rental car even though there were huge parking signs in front of our garage. So I explained and showed them the way to the guesthouse + showed them how to use a smart door device. Then I returned to my house because my husband and our son (1.7year) were coming back home and needed to prepare for dinner.
Then weird thing Nr.2 happened; the same old lady showed up AGAIN at our backyard and asked for some rice!! We gave some rice for them for free even though they have a car and 4 grocery stores locate within 1.5km from our property.
Weird thing Ne.3; Later on when my husband came back from our garage to fetch fire woods, he told me that guests were charging their electrical vehicle using a socket inside the garage! They didn’t say anything about this when I went outside and explained where to park a car. Beside we do not open our garage for guests, it is totally a private area.
What would you do if your guests just start charging their electrical vehicle without asking using a private area??
I feel like they somehow feel close to me because I am Japanese or sth...
@Aimi4 if you feel uncomfortable with any of this you need to let them know. Let then know that they can't charge their vehicle there, that the backyard is off limits, that if they need anything there are markets very close to your house. These are not some major problems that a simple communication wouldn't solve. Do you have a lock for your garage? I would suggest locking it. I think that they don't really know how things work, some people need more detailed explanations of what they can and can't do.
I’ve had a very similar situation just happen. Return guests (live far away but have elderly ostentatious in a care home nearby). I was t in the area the last time they stayed but was this time. 2 entire days with a bright orange extension cable running out of the Dining room window charging their car. Awkward when not discussed in advance.
Tell the guests they can't charge their car using your utilities and let them know the nearest charge point they can use. You really should have your garage locked so your guests or others can't access it.
If they want rice, let them know about the nearest local shops.
Had guests request to park in backyard, never mentioning or requesting to charge up their car there. Should there be an extra charge. Noticed an uptick on my electric bill. Thanks for response.
