Has a guest ever asked you to come in and clean throughout their visit?

Hi,

I'm curious about this and how to respond to it ...

I have a guest who is inquiring about a 37 day stay in my apartment, and asking if someone will come in to clean up after her at 1-2 week intervals.

I have never had anyone ask me this before - there is laundry, cleaning supplies, dishwasher, vacuum, etc - people normally clean up after themselves.  This seems more like a hotel request to me.

Has anyone ever been asked or offered to do this for guests while they are on a stay? As a guest, I wouldn't expect anyone to come in and clean for me during a stay and always leave the place as clean as I found it.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! It is really helpful to see if other people have had similar experiences in a lot of cases! As I had already discounted this rental, and am really not able with my schedule to add this kind of maintenance (laundry, dishes, vacumming, etc) I did go with another guest.  But was so curious if anyone provides or is asked to provide this kind of service.

Thanks so much for the insight.

@Gina158 this is not unusual at all. In fact, we require guests to have, and pay for, midstay cleanings if they stay more than two weeks. As a guest, I would want the same. I have a weekly housecleaner at home and I don't plan to clean when I travel either. I do expect to pay for it, though.

Understood. But this guest was not willing to pay for it. And wondering, do you do their laundry as well? Meaning, their clothes? I thought it was a bit odd.

@Gina158 no, but if a guest wanted this and was willing to pay for it I would certainly arrange it, and not consider it terribly odd.

@Gina158  We offer a 'refresh' for people who are staying 10 days or more.  We go in and change the bedding, not the cover, just the sheets, and the towels.  If it isn't too messy we will also do a light straightening but not really a cleaning, maybe wipe down a couple counter tops and remove trash and recycling, put away or wash dishes, etc., no vacuming or major bathroom cleaning.

We also offer to take out trash and recycling for reg. guests since a lot of people seem to forget it, despite reminders, and we prefer it goes out of the  house rather than stick to the rules.

So, it's really up to you, if you want to agree to a light cleaning/refresh...that's fine, but I would be clear about what it will and won't entail, maybe remind the person that there are plenty of cleaning supplies if they wish to do their own more deep cleaning...or you can say, that due to the affordable fee, you aren't able to include cleaning....or, lastly, you could agree to a cleaning and an extra charge.

I tend to think its better to get in the unit and make sure things aren't going haywire.
