I have had guests leave a large amount of food in the refrigerator/ freezer. The house rule book clearly states that no food is to be left in the refrigerator. It is a lot of extra work for the cleaning service... any suggestions to encourage guests to comply?
Hi @Catherine614,
Nice to meet you!
Perhaps you could put a note on the refrigerator kindly asking them to throw away any leftovers?
thank you for the suggestion. I did put a note in my information book and also a reminder note of the refrigerator. So I guess it is just going to happen from time to time.. I am not able to be there between guests so it puts a lot of responsibility on cleaning to remove the food. I think I will send a reminder email just prior to their departure. Nice to meet you too. This is my first venture into the chat room
they probably feel sorry to throw away food so they leave it to you to decide what to do .It happens to us all the time, if it is fruit, sugar, oil, condiments, coffee, cereals.... or unopened beverages I leave it for my next guests or take home.
That could be the reason. I think that in the future if it happens I will send them a private email asking why this was done. In these times it is unwise for me to leave things in the refrigerator that i personally can't guarantee the safety of the food.
@Catherine614 Cleaners around my area are thrilled to have food left that they can take home.
We actually tell people to leave any unused perishable food because people were chucking half full juice and soda bottles in the trash along with raw eggs, making the garbage a super heavy, toxic, bug attracting mess. But we do the cleaning ourselves for the most part so can determine what is okay to leave for the next guests, or throw out or give to the birds...but this at least keeps the trash as clean as possible and ensure that recycling gets recycled and not binned.
