Having extended our guests the courtesy of an early check in to accommodate thier attendance at a wedding, our guests messaged to say they were running late and would be with us 45mins later than scheduled at 13.15. These things happen and we were happy to accommodate, but meant I had to rejig a couple of my own commitments later in the day. I asked our guests to keep us informed because any further delays would have an impact on my kids schedule, and that was the last we heard from them. I chased them at 1415 when they still hadn’t arrived, with no response, and could only assume that they had gone straight to the wedding. However, the uncertainty meant that we had to reschedule our plans that afternoon/evening, several times over.
Finally, at 2200 - almost 9hrs later - they cancelled thier booking.
We’ve been successfully hosting for 2yrs with 5star reviews, and I’m really upset by this lack of courtesy. But, because they cancelled thier booking, I don’t think I can provide feedback or rate them as guests.
Is there anything I can do?
I think some of this is down to you.
Once the guests didn't turn up for the revised time, I would have just got on with my day and told the guests to contact me to rearrange their check in time. Why would you reschedule your plans.
Why not have a key lock or electronic lock to avoid problems like this.
Sounds like you haven't quite got to grips with how Airbnb works of course you can review them. Do so, and of course don't refund.

@Claire673 A guest or host can review a canceled reservation if the cancellation was day of check in. Keep your review short and to the point. Guests canceled this reservation and did not communicate well at all. Give them a 1* on communication and no stars in the two other categories and a thumbs up or down, your choice.

I live in a town where weddings are a big thing, and in my experience most guests going to weddings are hard work. I no longer allow early check ins, guests continually asked for these if they were attending weddings instead of booking the night before, and like your experience, they were always running late. Most of the damage done in my home has been from these guests. It's up to you, but in the future I would state that if a guest does not show up on time they will have to rearrange another time which suits you. People can be really inconsiderate.

I’ve definitely learned a lot this weekend, and of course once I realised they had changed thier plans, we carried on with our day with the view that they’d have to fit in around us. But you’re right - it’s the 2nd time wedding guests have run late so I think I need to rethink how I manage these bookings. I really appreciate your experience. Thanks!
