Because the potential guest entered an incorrect number of travelers, the rate they received was too low but AirBNB wants me to approve them to book. How do I fix this? I see no way to edit their quote to be correct. Thanks!
Darrell
You can alter the reservation, @Darrell12. On top of the messages with the guest you will find a button "Change or cancel." Go there and update the number of guests. In fact, it should be the guest to do that because they have made a mistake.
@Marzena4 I had the exact same problem yesterday, but was wary of altering the booking myself because I wasn't sure there wouldn't be a negative consequence to my commitment rating. Does anyone know if that would have been the case?
I asked the guest to alter it and she did, so it was fine.
In my logic aka imho, increasing the number of guests should be a positive indicator of the host's commitment, @Sheila146. 😉 But Airbnb's logic is unpredictable...
So far I have had to play with the alteration option requesting the guest to accept the change of the room and also the dates of the stay (another guest) - shortening it by one day. Neither seems to have affected my commitment because it is still 100%.
It has no bearing on committment rate, I do it almost with every guest.
Maybe because I am new, I don't have the same options as everyone else. There is no "Change or Cancel" button above my messages. I have the option to Preapprove (at the incorrect rate), Decline or Send a Special Offer. See screen shot attached.

@Darrell12, it's not a request, it's an invitation. That's why you cannot change it. Ask the guest to send you another invite.
@Darrell12 this is an inquiry so if you preapprove the guest still must make a reservation. So far they have just 'inquired.' You can preapprove and state:
-if you want to reserve you must enter the correct number of guests in order to see the correct pricing. If you reserve for 1 guest then only 1 guest may stay.
or
-please request for the number of guests that will be staying. The price you have seen is only for one guest. Each additional guest is $XX. We can allow YY guests total. Children under 2 are not counted. Or whatever.
Or you can decline with the explanation that they inquired about the wrong number of guests and tell them to send their inquiry again with the correct number.
Or you can respond without preapproving and ask them if they realize that the cost they see is only for one guest.
Thanks everyone for the input. Really appreciate your help!
