Leak! Should I ask for a refund?

Leak! Should I ask for a refund?

I'm hoping someone could help me out with what I should do. My husband, one year old and I got a 1 bedroom apartment for one month. We are going on the second week and already experiencing a leak in the bedroom ceiling caused by the shower from the upstairs neighbor. There was a pan up there so the host knew about it. The insulation was soaked that we had to put it outside to dry. We contacted the host immediately and she sent someone in 2 days (which was yesterday). Now I notice the leak again and the bed got a bit wet.

We paid for a one bedroom but have been sleeping in the living room that past few days. Should I ask for a refund, credit? I was ready to let it go...but this has become really inconvenient we paid a lot for this place.

Thanks for your input!

The host must offer you what you paid for. Although "things can happen" it seems repair of the leaking will not be done (and is probably complicated or time consuming). So yes, some refund for inconvience would be justified.

Best regards,

Emile

@Valerie-and-Brenden0  If you want to terminate your stay early due to the leak (understandable), the host should waive their cancellation policy and refund you for the unused nights.

But if you prefer to stay for the remainder of the booking, its' really up to the host whether they feel inclined to offer you something for your troubles.

@Valerie-and-Brenden0   I would leave, it sounds unsafe, and that whatever 'fix' was applied wasn't done properly.  And, yes, an ongoing leak that causes  you to not be able to use the bedroom is cause for a refund as far as I can see.

In your situation as the host has been unable to rectify the situation I would contact Airbnb and ask them to cancel the booking and help you find something else. @Valerie-and-Brenden0

I would also ask for a discount for the days stayed as you haven't been able to use the bedroom.

Call them now and insists this happens . I wouldn't stay somewhere like this with a baby.
