Leaving a Negative Review for a guest

Leaving a Negative Review for a guest

Apologies, I don't know where to put this one.

If a guest causes problems and the host leaves an honest or negative review, the guest also has 14 days to leave a review.

If the guest knows full well that they have caused problems, they won't leave a review, therefor the review will never been seen.

Reviews are only published once both parties have completed the review.

I think that the Hosts' review should get published anyway after consultation with AirBnB.

What if this person just causes problems 'because they can'? We've all met those kinds of people.

Why can't we, as Hosts leave reviews/warnings for other prospective Hosts? After all, most people on here run AirBnB from their homes.

If it got that bad that it involved the police or even courts, then what?

Hightstreet hotels are different, they've got money to burn on legal teams/fees/lawers etc so they can deal with problematic guests - We (AirBnB Hosts) don't have those resources!

Surely there should be a way of warning other Hosts about problematic guests?

Thoughts?

The host's review WILL be seen.

The reviews go up once both sides write reviews OR 14 days have passed, whichever happens first.

So if you write a review and they don't, yours will still show. The explanation is often misunderstood but on this one airbnb does it right, your host review is not dependet on the guest leaving a review.

And we are all grateful for hosts leaving honest reviews.

Hello,

I have given up on writing negative reviews after hosting around 150 guests I wrote two negative reviews that the guests had removed.

In one case

I stated the facts the guest booked for 5, 6 guests showed up and then an additional 2 guests stayed at the apartment for days there were 8 guests in the apartment.  I called Airbnb and asked them why they removed the review they said because I mentioned Airbnb needed to get involved and they wouldnt let me remove the one sentence mentioning Airbnb.

I have a legal nyc apartment in a 2 family house the issue for me is that the apartment can only have a max of 6 guests per the square footage limits set by the city.  Also if an inspector happened to see the number of guests or a neighbor complains then I would be fined violating fire codes in an otherwise legal apartment.

I would think other hosts would want to know about guests that do something like this.

Same here. I only give good reviews to good guests. The others don't get one. I think there are many of us hosts who do this. You can check the profile of a potential guest. If they registered a few months ago and have no reviews it is almost certain that they have stayed somewhere and were not good guests.

Then the lesson here is to not mention Airbnb in a guest's review.

Karen,

your comment is not correct only one of my reviews mentioned Airbnb the other did not and it was removed.  The point is a guest can easily have a review removed

I am making a plea to all hosts to write accurate reviews on ALL guests.  You are part of a community that depends on that information.  I do think you could use certain key phrases that indicate lack of suitability for the Air BNB guest experience.  Hosts will know what you mean.

I have just had my first lot of terrible guests. Demanding rude, damaging property. It seems wrong that they can have a bad review removed and I can't even put a review up at the moment. There seems to be no where for me to report them. They broke a brand new gate that no longer closes and I bent over backwards for them. It is not a hotel and that is why airbnb is cheap. Because you fend for yourselves! But this couple were truly awful, the wife especially and I am not sure what to do

Start your own discussion threat, @Laina1, so you can be sure to get all the help the host forum can provide.  You have jumped onto a thread that is almost a year old.  Anyway, your issue is not negative review is it?  Of course you would provide a negative review, but what are you doing about accessing the security deposit for damages done to your place (which is lovely!)?  Have you taken pictures, contacted the guests, made a demand for payment for repairs?  All this is needed to be reimbursed for your costs.  Of course there are procedures for making a claim through the Resolution Center so you need to read about all this in the Help Center.

I don't understand what happened that you cannot review or that your review was removed?  I didn't see a negative review only the one very positive one.
