Hi I was wondering if we are able to get a refund if the air Bnb property isn’t in the location it has on the property listing. We are 10minutes drive from where it was supposed to be. The property itself is lovely but as we don’t have a car we wanted something more central. The host is willing to drive us (with 10minutes notice) but we still have the issue of getting back and we can’t just duck out. Are we able to ask for full refund because of misrepresentation?
Oh @Janet405
10 minutes walk?
Its hardly to the other side of the moon is it?
Ih dear this is going to end in tears!
@Janet405 you can cancel and ask for a refund, but staying there and asking a full refund in the end while you have a host so kind willing to drive you everywhere? It would be so unfair. I understand the inconvenience but are you sure the house is on a wrong adress? Because we as hosts type in the adress and Airbnb puts it on the map. And 10 minutes drive is not even that much, just take a taxi and keep the recepits and ask the host for a refund on those in the end.
For me, much depends on the details here. While I agree the host sounds accomodating, a listing should be exactly where it has been stated. As a nondriver, I too would be annoyed to find myself somewhere other than where I was told I would be. Responses have dismissed the "ten minute drive" but a ten minute drive is a lot further to walk.
I have noticed it is not unusual for hosts who have multiple listings to shift people without warning (we have hosted people ourselves to whom this happened, and for whom it was upsetting- one family had very small children, so the new location was extremely inconvenient as it was not central as was the original place). On the other hand we routinely have people who make slightly passive aggressive remarks about our location, when, even with the vague location provided before booking, it's is perfectly obvious where we are relative to the rest of the city.
I'd have to know more details here before rendering judgement. Court in session! Next witness please!
I’d be curious to know if the details of the location were stated in the listing. Airbnb may have placed it incorrectly on the map but if the location is clear in the listing it seems unfair to criticize. I had a person ask me recently how long it would take her to walk to the dome on our local college campus. The miles and drive time are clearly stated in my listing, twice.
@Janet405, I'm only writing because just this weekend I was accused of misrepresentation as well. A doctor who needed to work in a hospital in Port Huron, Michigan (USA) booked my place two hours away in Canada. So that's two hours of driving plus a border between my listing and the workplace. She was furious when I pointed that out. She said my listing popped up when she searched Port Huron, and she thought I was responsible for that. Why was I advertising in the US when I am in Canada?, etc. All ended reasonably well. She received a great deal of help from me and CS as well as a full refund but, as it was a same-day booking, we are both being prompted to review.
These days the map view is not the default, so I did feel sorry for her - busy doctor booking last minute and lashing out when she missed checking the address. Did you take a look at the map before you booked? Is the address you received at booking the one at which you are staying? Is the address within the circle on the map on the host's listing page?
Yes I also noticed that map view is not default, I couldn't even find map view on my mobile . Very stupid and user unfriendly setting
There was a host on a thread about possible burglary from the maps that stated he clearly gives the wrong address on AIrBnB to protect his home. I wonder if you booked with him ;D If the address is not the same as you booked, you would be entitled to a refund. I'd like more information to make a recommendation with any other issue.
@Letti0 I still can't get over that 😄 I wonder how do guests still go through with the reservation after they know it was the wrong address. And how does Arbnb allow that.
@Ana1136 I am surpised that one of his guests hasn't reported it to AirBnB. I personally would not stay if the address I booked was not the address I was told to go to after booking. I would be cancelling the reservation the moment I learned it.
@Letti0 definitely, I wrote this exact thing to him and he was so surprised that I was paying more atention to this that worrying about possible burglaries, his idea was that we should all do this.
