Long term rental of my whole home

I am interested in moving to Europe for 6-12 months. Is it advisable to use Airbnb to rent my home while I am gone or should I use a management company?

@Jeanne103  Only if you have an experienced co-host who can handle everything that comes up, including knowing how to deal with bad guests and knowing how to recognize signs that guests may be looking to sneak in more people, etc. And a stellar cleaner so you don't get marked down for cleanliness.

What might be a better idea is if you know someone responsible (and who fits the above criteria) who would live in the house and co-host and just rent out the extra rooms.

But if you are meaning to try to rent the place out for 6-12 months to one set of guests, Airbnb isn't really set up for that- there's no real security deposit, and guests staying longer than a month can qualify as tenants under landlord/tenant laws and thenyou could have a nightmare scene trying to get them out if they are objectionable.

I'd be more inclined to offer it for rent as a long-term tenancy, privately, so you can take a real security deposit, ask for work and previous landolord references, interview the prospects personally, all that stuff people do to protect their interests and investments..

Thanks for the quick reply. I sort of thought that was their policy but couldn’t find a way to look it up.  I want just one person or couple to rent our home.

Bon Voyage!
