My air b&b host texted me to cancel my reservation. HELP!

i AM SHOWING A QUILT IN A SHOW.  i HAVE TO HAVE A PLACE TO STAY I GOT A TEXT THS AM AT 7:30 SAYING "SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE WE HAVE TO CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION"  i ALREADY PAID IN FULL AND THERE ARE NO PLACES IN TOWN LEFT AND IF ANYTHING IS STILL LEFT IT IS OVER 20 MILES AWAY.   HOW IS THIS OKAY?  i IMMEDIATELY TEXTED HER BACK AND ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION -  NO REPLY.  I'VE ALSO LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE.  I'VE READ OVER THIS WEBSITE AND THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANYTHING ABOUT  THE RIGHTS OR PROTECTION OF THE GUEST.  AREN'T THERE ANY RULES ABOUT THAT AND IF THEY DON'T RESPOND AM I FORCED TO GO THRU MY CREDIT CARD TO GET MY MONEY BACK??

@Pam330  This is a moment to put your caps lock key into its normal position, take a deep breath and call AirBNB. They will help you locate an alternative place, reimburse your funds, and perhaps even give you a tad more to help you with your AirBNB stay.

@Pam330 you will get a refund automatically and you can call Airbnb, they will help you to find alternative accommodation.

Pam I would call AirBnB, they may be able to find you somewhere else to stay. You should definietly get your full money back.

@Pam330 A text message cancellation is not the usual method of receiving a cancellation surely? Have you received any notification from Airbnb? A cancellation would normally need to go through them. Sounds fishy.

@Pam330 @Ian-And-Anne-Marie0  I assume that the host has used a text message as a way to fool Pam into cancelling herself to avoid the penalties. Not all hosts are ethical.

@Susan151 Hopefully by now @Pam330 has spoken with Airbnb and has found out what reason there might be for cancellation. If not, I'd be insisting that the reservation stands. My impression is that this is either on the day or even the day before? If so, thats a horrible way for the host to act.

It sounds like its from the host @Ian-And-Anne-Marie0  and @Pam330  is confused

@Helen3 It sounds that way to me too, but cancelling on the day or the day before is a bit nasty without any explanation. It does make you wonder what goes on.

I know I really dislike hosts who do this @Ian-And-Anne-Marie0 

 

Obviously if there are extenuating circumstances, that's a different matter.
