My guests showed up, half cut! Very rude and obnoxious and are making me very uncomfortable. Very verbal about the fact that they aren't happy about my dog being on the property, even though he is kept on a separate floor and locked away from guest areas, even though my profile states that there is a dog on the property. They have been banging around for hours now and I'm not sure what I can do ? Any help would be apreciated
@Ryan815 I don't see a picture of the dog in your listing. I would add at least one for those that are reading-challenged.
@Susan151 Must be a British/Canadian expression if you, literate person that you are, aren't familiar with it. Half cut- drunk or possibly high.
How about "F***kin' the dog? That's quintessentially Canadian, I think. Means slacking off, falling down on the job, standing around with your hands in your pockets when there's work to be done.
@Sarah977 Thank you for the translation! There are still some expressions that I am learning. My good friend in Australia often has to translate what sounds like perfectly good English for me, since the words are recognizable, but not when coupled together.
@Ryan815 I'd send them a very polite message so it's captured on the airbnb platform that you are sorry they didn't read the rules they acknowledged when booking that state there are pets on the property, reiterate that they will not have to interact with the dog and [if you want] let them know they are free to cancel if they are going to be uncomfortable. You might also mention that since it's a home share situation it is appreciated that guests keep noise at a reasonable level.
But, you are probably going to get a bad review I'm sorry to say. Of course if they are only staying for 1/2 nights you could grin and bear it and then give them the review they deserve.
@Ryan815Call Airbnb and tell them they are rude and disrespectful and you don't feel safe in your home and ask them to relocate them somewhere else.
It's not worth the money in my opinion. And please give them a honest review.
@Ryan815 I see that the dog is disclosed in your listing in the "You must also acknowledge" category, which should have appeared at the time the guests submitted their booking request. Admittedly, though, online transactions are full of these little click-through's that people don't pay attention to; most people would be horrified if they really understood what permissions they were giving to every app they downloaded and every social media platform they dump their data on. In the future, it would help you out a lot if you foregrounded the presence of a dog in your listing description and photos; actually for a lot of people, a cute little dog is a selling feature even if it's not actually sharing their space.
Anyway, you've arrived at the scenario where guests are unhappy, and they might even just be using the dog as an excuse for trying to get out of the booking. So this is where your best move is to give them a clear choice between completing the booking and leaving. It's never a good idea to keep guests who are unhappy from the beginning, so it's worth thinking about how much of a refund you're willing to offer for them to leave at the earliest opportunity.
But if they don't accept the opportunity to accept a refund in exchange for their departure, call their bluff. Some people kick and scream about being dissatisfied with the expectation that they can get a free or deeply discounted stay out of it. They need to be gently reminded, they can't have it both ways.
