Hey community, I’m looking for an advise. My partner and I, we came to Sydney for holidays and when we arrived we found the place with some people having drinks and stuff (it’s a shared place) and suddenly some of them started to smoke marihuana in the place, so my partner is not confortable at all because of this situation. What do you recommend me ?? Call Airbnb ? Or talk to my host. The thing it’s that the apartment is shared with other people. HELP.
Hi @Jose4189
I did some research and looks like it is legal in Australia.
If you do not feel conformable with the situation, you can contact Airbnb.
As the host is not committing a crime, I am not sure if you would be entitle to a refund (but I may be wrong).
Maybe keep this in mind also for future bookings, and ask before booking if the place is smoke free, or otherwise, book a non-shared house?
Thanks for your answer, @Roberta2 but according to Australian laws marihuana is illegal.
Hi
I found this in the NYTimes https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/25/world/australia/marijuana-cannabis-recreational-legal.html
Actually it is completely irrelevant if smoking cannabis has been legalised @Roberta2 it matters whether the host indicates the smoking of cigarettes or cannabis/other drugs on their premises is allowed or not.
If you have booked a no smoking listing @Jose4189 then no-one should be smoking anything there.
Sorry just re-read your post and it seems that it is the host that is actually smoking on the premises with friends.
In which case, if you speak to him see what he says if he is unwilling to stop contact Airbnb and ask them to cancel the booking. Keep a record of any conversations on Airbnb messaging.
Thanks everyone.
