Reservation alteration

I've come across a very strange situation. Made a reservation on July 28 for August 26-31. The reservation was accepted immediately, then less that in 24 hours I sent the host an alteration request (for August 29-31 due to the airline tickets availability). The host has never responded to the request (neither accepted it, nor declined). If I cancel the reservation (and lose the service fee, I know), will I be able to make a new one for the desired dates at the same property? How quickly are the dates released after cancellation?
