Review for a guest that didn't stay

I had a guest that was supposed to stay with us, I sent him a message the day prior asking him what time he was going to arrive, no response. The day of his reservation I get a phone call from my neighbor at 1pm and she says my guest is trying to check in and I'm not home, check in time is at 5pm so I speak with the guest and tell him check in time is at 5 and that I will be there and meet him at 5. 6:30, no guest. My husband and I go out to dinner and leave a not. We get back and he finally shows up at 8:30. We show him the room and then he asks if we are going to leave! Well we live here and so I told him that and he said him and his wife were going to go get dinner, but they actually left to get a hotel room. I want to leave a review for future hosts to make sure to clarify arrival time/ make sure he knows if it is private room/whole house (hopefully he learned his lesson). I also understand I shouldn't leave a review since he didn't stay with me. What should I do?

I would say that while he didn't stay, you had some interaction with him and found that he didn't communicate as well as he might have.   Then in the private message section, I'd be more direct.   If he needs advice, that can be done in a way that isn't embarrassing to him.  Sounds like he's a newbie and got lost in the process.

Hi Ashley, you can write a review starting with this guest didnt stay with us however we experience ..... And explain whatever you want to say nicely, neutral and factual. It his choice not to stay and he didnt ask for the refund. Good luck..;)

@Ashley55  One way to avoid this arrival time issue happening again is to add to your listing that you as a host would like to know their arrival times and departure times at the time of bookings.  I get this important information from every guests the moment they book unless they haven't purchased their plane ticket yet, but my listing is very clear that this information must be given at the time of booking.  And for those who haven't gotten their plane tickets yet, I send a kind reminder message during our ongoing chat on the ABB message board to please remember to send me this information as soon as they book their tickets.  Then I put their arrival times and departure times into my Iphone calendar.  So far, so good.

It also helps me IF another new guests ask if they can get an early check-in knowing what time my other guests are leaving that same day as my new arrival lands in Honolulu.  Win Win for everyone.  Knowledge is Power, and I like feeling powerful!  😉

If you feel that me or another host have helped you, feel free to click on the "thumbs up" button at the end of any post. Thank you so much.

Aloha, Momi

Asking what time their plane arrives and departs on booking is a good practice. Smart move.
