What is an STR? And do I qualify as an STR when I work through Airbnb as the source of my income? This is a new legal term for me.
Short term rental is a term to differentiate from long term rental as there are differences in the guest/tenant rights and often a difference in the taxes collected, @Lynette39. It is not the platform that qualifies as STR or LTR, it is the length of stay. You can have long term rentals using the Air BNB platform. Usually in the US, the definition for LTR is 30+ days, but on Air BNB the LTR policies are for 29+ days.
The town/community where I live/host is considering some pretty draconian rules to severely limit the ability to rent STR/airbnb - has anyone else come up against this? Does anyone know if airbnb offers any kind of legal counsel to address this?
To clarify, we don't rent in NY, NY, we host in upstate NY. In a rural setting.
