I am looking to book a trip for my team. We are a non-profit university and are tax exempt. Does anyone know how we can use our status to book our airbnb?
@Michelle1097 even though non-profits are exempty from Income Tax, I do not believe that non-profit status exempts the University from local Hotel or Occupancy Taxes.
(Sort of like how the University probably still pays Sales Tax when it buys things.)
@Michelle1097 You will need to call AirBnB they will refund the taxes they pay to the state of Texas 6%. You will need to send them you tax exempt letter. Give your host a copy of the letter also and she can refund you the 5% for Beaumont City and 2% for Jefferson County.
@Matthew285 They do get tax empemt on hotel taxes you as a host will not have to pay for them either for their stay. Also universities do not pay sales tax on supplies either they are exempt.
@Matthew285 In this case above both the host and AirBnB will refund. On the hosts end you refund the money you have built into your rate or do not charge additional for the taxes on that booking. In your case I think AirBnB pays all the taxes for you to San Franscisco and the state, you would not need to do anything.
