I own a house at Bradenton Beach, Manatee County, FL and have a question about taxes:
Normally I (the host) have to pay 11.5 tax. 6 % Florida tax, County 0.5% and a additional tourist tax of 5%. This makes 11.5 %.
What taxes are cashed by airbnb directly from the guest and payed from them directy to the IRS?
Thank's for your help in advance
Ralf

Ralph,
The IRS has nothing to do with this. As in... The taxes in question are those State and Local Sales and Use Taxes/Transient Occupancy Taxes that are to be paid by the guest, and forwarded to State and Local Governments.
Are you collecting and forwarding those taxes already? Or have you been ignoring your legal responsibility?
You are obligated to collect the appropriate Sales and Use taxes from your guests, and forward them to State and Local Governments. Do you have accounts set up with The State of Florida and Manatee County?
If you are using AirBnB as your sole source for short term rental income, AirBnB has made an arrangement with The State of Florida and Manatee County, and you don't need to file monthly reports with State and Local Government, along with forwarding taxes collected from your guests. If however you are using other online booking services to attract guests as well, you are still obligated to collect and forward taxes related to those bookings.
At the end of the year, the IRS is going to want to know how much income you received through your rental activities... YOU are responsible for reporting that income to the IRS, and paying the appropriate INCOME taxes. You are an independent business, using AirBnB as an advertising platform to attract guests. You are not an employee of AirBnB, and as such, AirBnB does not withold Federal income tax or Social Security taxes from your payout. Transient Use Taxes are State and Local issues.... your overall income is between you and the Federal Government.
hello there I'd be happy to help with what I know I live in the state of Florida also in the panhandle region I have been a host for one and a half years airbnb collects all state tax and sends it to the state of Florida anonymously currently that is their agreement with the state of Florida in my county Santa Rosa County I am required to pay the 5% myself to the tourism tax into the county I do this monthly so I did not pass that county and tourism tax onto my guess because I thin. I hope that answered your question I feel that it did !k it's unreasonable to do so I think it's unreasonable because Airbnb already collects are 6% above our asking price and they also pay Airbnb fees that we don't see
How do you add this fee to your listings?
Old thread, but I will add my experience for any new hosts.
All state taxes are collected by Airbnb EXCEPT the 5% Manatee County Tourist Bed Tax. You have to collect this separately from the guest and pay it yourself to the county Tax Collector (you can do all this online). This is for all listing in Manatee County including Bradenton.
There is still a conflict going on between Airbnb and the Manatee County Tax Collector. The tax collector won't sign an agreement with Airbnb to have them collect the bed tax. Most other FL counties (not all) have an agreement with Airbnb to have Airbnb collect the tax.
The Manatee county Tax Collector is actively scanning Airbnb and other sites' listings and comparing them with the accounts that are paying the bed tax. Those that are not, can expect nasty enforcement letters from the Tax Collector with threads of legal action.
Best to open up your own account for the Bed Tax with the Tax Collector on their website.
I mention clearly in my Airbnb listing that there is a separate 5% county tax that has to be paid before check in. After booking I send the future guest a payment request for the tax through the Airbnb Resolution Center (click the 'Send or Request Money' button). This way Airbnb will collect the tax amount and pay it out to you the host with the regular payout. The guest will receive an email from Airbnb with payment instructions.
I also keep a whole administration (on an MS Excel sheet) to keep track of who has or hasn't paid the Bed tax yet and to who I already send a request to pay. Note that you can only send a request through Airbnb once the reservation is fully paid and as a host you cannot see when that is the case.
Once you have an account the Tax Collector will send you a payment reminder at the start of a new month. You can pay them online. You have to enter your gross rental income and they will calculate the tax amount, 5% minus a small collection allowance.
Thank you for taking the time to post that detailed response now that it's 2022 is this still in effect because after talking to Airbnb they said they take care of all the taxes and forward them there's nothing else to be collected. Is this the case for you?
