Taxis in Istanbul

Hello! We are traveling to Istanbul next week and wanted to see if anyone had any insight as to the taxi situation there. As far as I know uber is not available in Turkey.  Is it best to hire a private car, or wait til we get to the airport to get a taxi? Curious as to how others experience in this situation has gone. Thanks!
