Tips on my home?

Hi all, anyone know how I can get another Host to critique my home? I'm sure there are problem areas to which I have become blind. I need a new set of eyes to see what I need to do to improve. Jay

Hello @Jay77,

Lovely to meet you and thanks for your post. I hope you don't mind, I've moved your post to create a new topic here in the Help board. This will make it a little more visible. 🙂

Are there any particularly areas you are looking for pointers on?

Hi Lizzie, thanks for the move. Not one area in particular but the whole package. We spent last weekend at an upscale beach Airbnb and by comparison our house looks pretty tired. I think changing the carpet and touching up the paint here and there will be a huge improvement. We have a large house built in 1972 so keeping up with repairs is similar to living on a farm, there is always something to do. Thanks again, Jay.

@Jay77  Don't change the carpet. Get rid of it, if possible. Carpets are disgusting, filthy things. Even if you clean it several times a year, so what. How often do you wash your kitchen and bathroom floors? Way more often than the carpet gets a wash, I'd be willing to bet. If at all possible, I'd put in hardwood, laminate, or tile floors that aren't an issue for allergy sufferers, don't hold dirt and dust and all manner of bacteria, and can be easily kept clean. Then some attractive throw rugs to define certain areas and add interest, and can be thrown in the wash. I always feel an "ick" feeling when I'm staying anywhere with carpets.

But in general, I wouldn't feel that I had to match the decor or wow factor  of an upscale beach property that likely rents for quite a bit more than what you charge for your listings.

@Jay77   You have several listings.  Which one do you want feedback on?

Well Linda, aren't you sweet! Pick the worst one 🙂 . I was more looking for someone local to come by the house and point out our deficiencies from a fresh perspective. I sure we have many. Kind of like a mystery shopper does for businesses. Any ideas?

Linda, I just saw your pics. You've got style!

@Jay77, that's a great idea. I am nowhere near Atlanta but give me the flight and I'll come 🙂

I have actually done just that for a nearby host, was great fun. If you can't find a local host who has what it takes to make constructive criticism, maybe ask an honest friend? But I think you have ideas of your own already. You know what is tired and what isn't. Once you start with fresh paint somewhere, the next thing becomes apparent.
