Last weekend our neighbors went to another state for a wedding, leaving their 2 teenagers home alone. At 1 a.m. I was woken up by a persistent bass beat. I got up to see what the source was, thinking my guests were watching a movie. But they weren't. Those teens were having a rip roaring party with perhaps 50 or more kids. I immediately texted the parents, not really thinking they would respond at that time of the morning. I wanted a record of what time I was aware of the party. Then 15 minutes later I called the county sheriff's office. In record time they arrived (less than 10 minutes in our rural area). WIthin a half hour it was done and everyone gone. To my surprise, cars started in our own driveway! cars were hidden in the dark behind our trees. The next morning I took a photo of the beer cans strewn all over. By afternoon it was cleaned up. 2 days later I heard from one of the parents, and she said that they had given permission, and next time they would let us know. She also said that they were all good kids and that teens will be teens. No apology for disturbing everyone, no surprise at the underage drinking.
So now the question is: although my guest seemed good humored about the whole thing, she hasn't left a review for me. I have reminded her, but now I'm not so sure she would give a good review even though this was not my fault. If she did leave a review and it was negative based on this incident, could I protest it with AirBnb? Would there be a chance of it being removed?
If a review does not violate Airbnb's content policy, it wll not be removed. Guests have the right offcourse to mention such incident in their review, if it disturbs their experience. But you have the right to comment on a review. I would not bother to much, such things happens, you can't control everything.
Best regards,
Emiel
@Julie1525 As you say your guest seemed good humored about it, and knows it wasn't your fault and that you acted on it immediately and responsibly, I wouldn't waste time worrying that she'll leave a bad review. If it happens, as Emiel says, you can write a response to the review.
You really have two choices...
1. Just let it go, don't do a review, most likely they won't and it will never appear anywhere. You get a message from the system that the guest left a review, so if they do before the 30 days and you do nothing it just goes away.
2. The second is more about doing the right thing by other hosts. Ask yourself how you would feel if a host before you did not review about this behavior, wouldn't you be upset with the other host?
Let your conscience lead the way...
@Jonathan6 You are quite misinformed about reviews and you are passing that misinformation on to other hosts. Reviews don't "go away". Reviews get published regardless of whether both parties have left a review or not. And I don't know where you pulled that 30 days from.
If only one party leaves a review, it will get published 14 days after the guest checks out. If both write reviews, they will get published as soon as both are submitted. After 14 days, you can no longer leave a review.
If niether party leaves a review, it just goes away, no review. When one party leaves a review the other is notified. I was saying if you never get a notice that your guest left a review and you do not do a review then no reviews get posted for either party. I am correct.
@Jonathan6 wrote:I am correct.
Nope. You aren't. Reviews do not just go away if either party has written one.
@Jonathan6 If neither party leaves a review, there is nothing to go away, obviously, because nothing has been submitted.
But you said "You get a message from the system that the guest left a review, so if they do before the 30 days and you do nothing it just goes away." If you get a message from the syastem that the guest has left a review, it doesn't "go away" if you do nothing. It gets posted on the host's account after 14 days. I have no idea why you are even referring to 30 days.
