VAT in Europe

How does VAT work in Europe? Does the guest pay? How do I know if I have been charged VAT? I checked under "Listings/Reservations" as the Help page says but I don't see any VAT deducted or charged?

For individuals VAT is applied to Airbnb Service fees (for Guest and for Host).

The VAT invoice can be seen in the list of reservations (via pulldown menu in most right colomn: "three dots")
