Hello everyone,
I started hosting this month and I have a question about taxes forms. I was requested by AirBNB to provide tax informations by filling out specific forms depending on my status.
there are 3 options:
- W9 for american citizens
-W8ECI for non american citizens with a US taxpayer identification number
-W8BEN for non american citizens without a US taxpayer identification number
I'm an italian citizen with a regular social security number through the company I co-own that is not connected to the hosting.
I think I should fill out W8ECI, but by doing some research online it appears this form must be completed in case the income it refers to, is connected to a trade or business.
Also, if I try to fill out the W8ECI on air bnb website, I'm asked to specify any income element connected to the conduct of a trade or business in the US. Should I just say "none" here?
Thank you in advance for your help
Marcello
My best guess for you @Marcello2 is to contact the IRS to sort out your situation. They are best source of tax related info. Good Luck!
Just a point of clarity as a Canadian living in the US - the W9 is not just for citizens, but also for legal residents. Thank goodness I'm legal or the Red Haired monster running for office would kick me out 🙂
@Marcello2 Were you able to get an answer to this question?
I don't know whether I should fill out the W8BEN or W8ECI.
I am a French national on an H1B visa.
I am in the same situation, please let me know if you figure something out!
Hi Alejandra and Wilka,
I had to relocate shortly after and stopped hosting so I never investigated further.
I am in the same situation, please let me know
