Why can't I get my messages using the mobile app for Airbnb on my iPhone?

I have a concern about my inbox - I can see and respond to messages using my Macbook pro - but once I got onto the mobile app - my inbox is empty and I can't access it. This concerns me as I will be traveling next week and I need to use my iphone. How do I reach my host if necessary?
