cannot apply coupon on 1st booking

My referral/friend has already created an account using my link and she's now trying to checkout her 1st booking.  Upon getting to the Confirm and Pay step she gets a message: "Let's try that again. This can happen if your account wasn't created directly on Airbnb.  In order to finish booking, please remove the coupon." What exactly does this mean?!

I have same issue. "Let's try that again
Unfortunately, we can not conclude this booking. After getting to the Confirm and Pay step I get a message "The referral coupon or credit used is invalid. Please remove the coupon or credit to complete the booking" and my code is expired without even booking
