double booking

Hi, I just posted my listing last eve so am really new to this.

I had a request for June 30-July 2. I excahnged notes with the guest She was very interested and she said she would get back to me this eve. In the meantime, I got another request for July 1-2. Since I received that request, the system says that July 1 is no longer available so the first request cannot book. I'd like to accept the first guest for two days. 

Would anyone be able to help me to sort this out?

You have Instant Book turned on and the second reservation was able to book directly.  https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/523/what-is-instant-book

In general, someone who will "get back to you" rarely books.  If they are ready to commit to your property, then they should and you shouldn't hold dates on a promise.

Like others have said, cash is king.  Whoever is able to make a reservation first and does, gets the booking - and did in your case!
